Crafters and ceramicists in the Prahran area may be interested in signing up for the Modern Kintsugi class in February. Local craft classes are often advertised to the community by brochure adverts that are designed in Print shops.
Kintsugi (golden joinery) is the ancient Japanese skill of repairing ceramics without concealment so that the history of the piece is maintained. Kintsugi traditionally uses lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum to form beautiful joins to highlight the flaws, thus creating a new piece with integrity. The workshop instructs on the history of Kintsugi and how to perform the art on two to three broken objects. Resin is used as an alternative to the more traditional lacquer as it dries quickly, is less allergenic and is a budget alternative. At the end of the session, illustrated instructions and leftover materials can be taken home to continue practising at home.
Daisy Cooper has recently moved to Melbourne from the UK, after studying fine art in Scotland. Cooper then worked in London for arts charities and organisations before studying and enjoying ceramics. Her worked is stocked in Australia and the UK.
The Modern Kintsugi with Daisy Cooper experience takes place on Saturday 18th February at 2 until 4pm. The venue is The Windsor Workshop, 1 Brenchley Place, Prahran, VIC 3181. The workshop costs from $160. Pastries, tea and coffee are available.
