World-renowned performer to headline celebration of singing

Melbourne, Victoria, is set to host the sixth annual Melbourne International Singers Festival.

Presented by the School of Hard Knocks, the event brings together individual vocalists and choirs in a big weekend where music is the focus.

The shows will be spread across a number of venues and will provide an opportunity for singers to perform and rehearse with some of the world's most acclaimed arrangers, composers and conductors.

Master classes and workshops will also be included in the four-day programme, which has been advertised on the internet and via flying printing. A special Best of British Proms concert will also be among the major events this year.

Internationally renowned jazz singer, arranger and composer Kirby Shaw will feature at the event, along with the Australian Voices and multi-award winning vocalist Gordon Hamilton.

Shaw has more than 2,500 choral compositions/arrangements in Print. Vocalists worldwide have sung his music, including the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, who are among his more recent commissions.

Festival attendees will have an opportunity to attend a choir masterclass conducted by Shaw.

The event, to be held over the Queen's Birthday weekend from June 5th – 8th in Melbourne's Federation Square, has been described by organisers as not just a festival, but an unforgettable experience too.

Festival proceeds will assist cultural and arts programmes for people who are disadvantaged.
