Led by Stephen Taberner and created in the Blue Mountains, the Spooky Men’s Chorale has charmed audiences both at home and in the UK and Europe.
Playing almost 1,000 gigs and having released seven albums, the choir combines singing with bonhomie and a smattering of silliness to enrapture those listening.
The choir performs an unlikely combination of Georgian chants, ballads and covers of popular songs. The setlist on the night will likely include Bohemian Rhapsody, Sweetest Kick and We Are Not a Men’s Group, all harmonised with their additional trademark deadpan, absurdist commentary.
High praise includes the following from The Guardian (UK):
“It takes a rare skill to be very silly, thoughtful and sing in perfect harmony, but The Spooky Men’s Chorale manage to achieve just that.”
A reporter from The Sydney Morning Herald also commented:
“Sheer musical excellence – like the ghosts of choristers long gone.”
