Melbourne Southbank to host Shakespearean comedy

One of Shakespeare’s much-loved plays is now showing in Melbourne Southbank for fans of The Bard.

Much Ado about Nothing is a comedy about a battle of the sexes. The main characters, Benedick and Beatrice, are in a love-hate relationship, but ultimately the audience can see that they do indeed make the perfect couple, despite their apparent protestations.

This brand-new production by the Melbourne Theatre Company is directed by Mark Wilson. It will star Helpmann Award winner Alison Bell as Beatrice, and AACTA Award winner Fayssal Bazzi as the erstwhile lover. As well as comedy, the script is known for its intrigue, drama and romance, and is a popular choice with Shakespeare fans as well as those who are new to his plays.

Memorable quotes from the play include Beatrice masking her true feelings towards Benedick:
“For which of my bad parts didst thou first fall in love with me?”

Likewise, Benedick also reluctantly confesses his love:
“I do love nothing in the world so well as you – is not that strange?”

Much Ado About Nothing has multiple showings available at the Southbank Theatre, which can be found at 140 Southbank Boulevard in Melbourne. Performances will run until Friday, 19 December. Tickets cost from $29. Advertisements for plays at a theatre like this one may often be created by using local printing services.
