Historical theatre headed for Melbourne Southbank

A revered theatre in Melbourne Southbank will soon present a play about a key event in the history of Victoria’s capital.

Melbourne Southbank residents with a love of history and theatre will be doubly served this autumn. A new production is headed for the central suburb called “West Gate” from Ian Sinclair, the award-winning director who previously brought Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge” to life on stage.

Theatre companies putting on plays and other types of stage productions sometimes work with experienced flyer printing services that can create colourful adverts that call out to big names on the cast list.

The upcoming play is led by a wealth of acting talent including Steve Bastoni, Daniela Farinacci, Lachy Hulme and Darcy Kent, all who have appeared on the big screen. Designed to depict the human cost when the West Gate Bridge collapsed in 1970, the production is both compassionate and haunting. Rated as the most serious industrial accident in Australia’s history, the collapse occurred during construction of the West Melbourne project, and the play delves into the event through the eyes and actions of fictional characters created by writer, author and playwright, Dennis McIntosh.

West Gate will now be on stage at the Southbank Theatre from Tuesday, March 10 to Saturday, April 18. The venue is situated at 140 Southbank Boulevard in Melbourne Southbank.
