What's Happening in Southbank, VIC…

Southbank to celebrate community members with disabilities

Residents of Melbourne Southbank will have the opportunity to celebrate the International Day of People with Disability 2020 with an online programme designed to showcase the talents of people with disabilities in their community.

The Creative Control programme, delivered by the Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), consists of several exhibitions to be enjoyed from home, including visual arts, theatre, workshops and films. It has been designed in conjunction with Writers Victoria, Arts Access Victoria and the Polyglot Theatre.

The Back to Back Theatre has produced “People, Bodies and Film” for the event – a work made in collaboration with artists with disabilities, which will be available for online viewing throughout the week. The theatre champions people’s individual gifts and strives to question assumptions made about members of the community.

The programme will also feature Writers Victoria’s “Seven Days of Writing”, in which talented Australian writers, including Christine Davey-White, Fiona Murphy and Binh Pham, will release a new piece of writing each day online.

Virtual programmes and online events will often use graphic design services to ensure webpages are eye-catching for those browsing online.

Creative Control will be available online from Thursday, December 3 until Thursday, December 10. For more information and to see the full programme of events, see the BSL website. To book workshops, see the Eventbrite website.
