‘Sunday’, written by Anthony Weigh, will be performed in Melbourne Southbank this September.
The show is based upon Heide Museum of Modern Art’s founder, Sunday Reed, who belonged to a group of artists that included Albert Tucker, Sidney Nolan and Joy Hester. In the global premiere, which has been commissioned by the Melbourne Theatre Company, Nikki Shiels is cast as Reed.
Shiels depicts the character’s spirit of passion and unconventionality, whilst bringing to stage Reed’s affair, devotion to her spouse and the consequences she faced for living her life the way she wanted to as a female in Australia in the mid-20th century.

Weigh, author of ‘2,000 Feet Away’, has used his writing skills to showcase the romantic, intellectual and artistic life of Reed on stage. The show’s director is Sarah Goodes, and it features additional talent such as Mark Leonard Winter, Matt Day, and Ratidzo Mambo.
The show is suitable for people who have accessibility needs; have learning, understanding and communication behaviours that are challenging; have impaired vision or hearing; and have enough mobility to climb a minimum of two to three steps.
