Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the aim of the grants was to help emerging and new businesses to grow and prosper which will, in turn, assist the city’s economic standing. He said:
“This round of grants will support 13 small businesses and is forecast to generate more than $20.2 million in turnover and equity and the creation of around 100 new jobs in the city.”
The grants provided by the City of Melbourne are becoming more hotly contested each year, according to the Lord Mayor, who said that the increase in grant applications, combined with the diversity of businesses applying, reflected an increasing level of productivity, innovation and jobs in Melbourne.
Since the introduction of the Small Business Grants Programme in 1996, the City has helped 370 small businesses with direct financial assistance of $8.3m. As a result, in excess of $131m has been generated in turnover, export and investment earnings, and 900 jobs have been created.
The Mayor explained:
“These grants stimulate growth and investment.”
Previous grant recipients whose Business Cards are today highly regarded among the city’s business community include Koko Black, TouchOne, Kisa, KeepCup and NexVet.
Applications for the 2018 Grants programme open in July.
