The Comedy of Errors is thought to be one of Shakespeare’s early plays, centring around a family and two sets of twins separated in a shipwreck and their attempt to find each other years later. When the twins eventually meet up in Ephesus, much slapstick comedy ensues because of mistaken identity. The title of the play has entered the English language as:
“An event or series of events made ridiculous by the number of errors that were made throughout.”
This version of the play is directed by Janine Watson, who has also worked with the Bell Shakespeare company. The Bell Shakespeare Company is an Australian national theatre company, founded over 30 years ago from the humble origins of a circus tent, with a goal of bringing the works of Shakespeare to all via outreach programmes and education.
