Popular singer/songwriter/composer to play Melbourne Southbank
Rufus Wainwright is set to play here in Melbourne Southbank in early January.
Wainwright was born in New York in 1973. He has recorded many albums as well as tracks for films. The son of music royalty Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigie, he released his first self-titled studio album in 1998 and it was recognised as one of the best albums of that year by Rolling Stone magazine. He released his eleventh, Folkocracy, in June 2023, featuring imagined duets with the likes of Chaka Khan, Brandi Carlile and the Pet Shop Boys.
Nominated three times for a GRAMMY, the evening will showcase Wainwright’s vocals, lyricism and magnetic stage presence and will highlight why he is able to collaborate with popular singers such as Joni Mitchell, Elton John and Billy Joel. He has also worked with producer Mark Ronson.
Magnet Magazine says of him:

Rufus Wainwright is appearing at the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, 31 Sturt Street, Melbourne, VIC 3006 on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th January at 7.30pm. Tickets cost from $109.
