The launch of the Asia Society Australian Centre, located in Southbank Boulevard, took place recently and was attended by Premier Daniel Andrews together with consular officials, philanthropists and business leaders.
The Premier said the centre will play a vital role as a focus for civic, cultural, diplomatic and business engagement on Asia-Australia relations.
It will also host learning programmes, leading international visitors, policy insights as well as assist in connecting diverse communities across Victoria.
In what has been described as a major coup, the headquarters will also provide a regional home for both the Asia Society of Global Education and the Asia Society Policy Institute which, outside the USA, is a first.
Premier Andrews said Asian ties will be strengthened by the Asia Society’s expansion into Melbourne adding it was all about ensuring prosperity, creating jobs and boosting exports for Victorians.
Minister for Jobs, Innovation and Trade Martin Pakula was delighted with the centre’s launch saying:
“Having the Asia Society based in Melbourne will put Victoria in the best possible position to capitalise on our engagement with our major trading partners.”
Australia’s exports are diverse and range from Promotional Products to computers, meat, cereals and mineral fuels.
