Mussel and Jazz Festival to come to Melbournes Southbank

The Port Philip Mussel and Jazz Festival returns for the seventh year to woo food and music lovers to South Melbourne in March.

This iconic street festival is reputed to feature some of Melbourne’s top restaurants and chefs. Local restaurants such as Claypots, Simply Spanish and Bambu are but a few that will operate pop-up stores offering mussels cooked a variety of interesting ways. For those who are not mussel lovers, there is an array of other foods to choose from, including paellas, calamari and prawns.

Children have not been forgotten, with lots of fun activities for them to do as well as a chance to sample artisan ice cream. For adults, there will be local craft beer, sangria and ciders are on offer. Restaurants often utilise printing services to create Menus featuring their signature dishes.

This gastronomic experience will be served with a side of jazz, featuring sounds from New Orleans and Dixieland. The varied line-up includes top-notch artists and is sure to appeal to all festival goers.

In previous years, South Melbourne Market has collaborated with The Nature Conservancy in a program called ‘Shuck Don’t Chuck’. Consumers are encouraged to jump on board in an effort to nurture sea life by discarding their empty shells into special bins. These shells are then recycled and returned to the ocean to rebuild habitats for mussels and shellfish to grow in.

The festival takes place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th March on Cecil Street at the South Melbourne Market. It is easily accessible via car or one of Melbourne Southbank’s tram stations. Entry is free and more details can be found online.
