Melbourne Southbank to explore social justice through jazz

Music lovers have an opportunity to enjoy a night of Jazz at Melbourne Southbank in September.

Jazz and Social Justice explores jazz as an impetus for justice, unity and creativity. In the current global climate, social justice is at the forefront of news and enchanting vocalist Jackie Bornstein, accompanied by her top band, will bring to life the stories of jazz and music artists who have stood against social injustices.

Jackie has included songs by artists such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Vince Jones, Nina Simone, Leonard Cohen and Sting to create a performance that tells powerful stories of injustices from the 1930’s right through to the present day.

Described as a powerful and emotive vocalist, Jackie Bornstein has developed her own unique style. Classically trained as a child, she went on to study jazz performance at the Victorian College of Arts and is strongly influenced by greats such as Dee Dee Bridgewater and Dianne Reeves.

Jackie is often a regular feature at numerous Melbourne jazz venues with sell-out performances at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and the Melbourne Recital Centre. She loves to include a broad repertoire which includes songs in Spanish, French, English and Portuguese. Poster printing is often utilised by event organisers to advertise upcoming shows to the wider community.

Jazz and Social Justice will be hosted at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Southbank on 18th September at 8pm. Tickets can be purchased on the Eventfinda website.
