Marketing expert Karen Bolinger has been appointed the CEO of the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau. Bolinger is expected to take up her position in November 2011. This role had become available as the previous CEO Sandra Chipchase resigned in August in order to head up the tourism authority Destination New South Wales.
Bolinger is an excellent for this role as she has over 20 years experience in the meetings industry. Her most recent role was the general manager position at the Royal Agriculture Society in New South Wales. This was a position that she held for three years. Previously Bolinger worked as the general manager of the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau. It is also important to note that her employment history includes work with Sheraton on the Park and the Renaissance Sydney Hotel.
Karen is looking forward to the new role as she believes Melbourne to be Australia's leading business events capital. The chairman of MCVB Chris Barlow says that Bolinger was a stand out applicant from a pool of strong candidates.
