Irish singer/songwriter to delight audience in Melbourne Southbank

Those living in Melbourne Southbank who appreciate a sentimental sound and heartfelt lyrics might be keen to see the songsmith Gilbert O’ Sullivan as he sings and plays locally.

Born Raymond Edward O’Sullivan in 1940s Ireland, O’Sullivan moved to the UK in the 1950s. Although trained as a graphic designer, his first love was always music, and after, changing his name, he penned his first UK Top Ten hit in 1970 with Nothing Rhymed. A debut album followed, and it was his 1972 hit, Alone Again (Naturally), that found him chart-topping success in the US, as well as spawning cover versions by many other artists over the years, including Elton John, Shirley Bassey and Nina Simone. British number ones followed with Get Down and Clair. At the 18th Ivor Novello Awards he was awarded Songwriter of the Year, followed by a US and UK tour.

Known for his wistful lyrics and melancholic angst, O’Sullivan has been a fan-favourite for many years and his back catalogue is likely to be a draw for many in May who will recall him fondly.

Stationery printers are often employed locally in order to produce advertising material for likely popular musical artists.
