Festive cheer to come to Melbourne Southbank

Christmas fans in the Melbourne Southbank area may well wish to purchase tickets for the Australian Boys Choral Institute: Home for the Holidays event in December.

At this traditional festive event, artistic director Nicholas Dinopoulos conducts almost 200 singers from the Australian Boys Choral Institute, accompanied by the Vocal Consort, covering Christmas favourites both old and new. The playlist is likely to include much-loved carols such as ‘O, Little Town of Bethlehem’ and ‘Away in a Manger’, as well as more contemporary pieces and music that showcases the vocal range of the choir.

The Australian Boys Choir had its first rehearsal on 20th October 1939, led by schoolteacher Vincent Kelly. Summer trips carried on through the 1940s, which helped to establish a waiting list. After severable notable appointments of Musical and Artistic Directors throughout the twentieth century, Nicholas Dinopoulos was appointed as lead and Artistic Director in 2018, bringing to the role many years professional experience as a singer and performer.

Festive fans may well be drawn to Christmas events by striking Christmassy graphic design on posters and banners advertising communal events.

The Australian Boys Choral Institute: Home for the Holidays event takes place on Saturday 10th December at 5pm at the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, 31 Sturt Street, Melbourne 3006, with tickets costing from $35.
