Dark Side of the Moon commemorated in Melbourne Southbank
Classic rock fans in Melbourne Southbank will be excited to learn that they can buy tickets for an anniversary performance of Dark Side of the Moon, one of the most recognised albums of the 1970s.
Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973. It was a concept album and was conceived as an indicator of the pressures on the band and also the mental health of Syd Barrett, who had left the band five years previously. The album very quickly received cult status and is often referred to as one of the greatest of all time. It went fourteen times platinum in the UK and charted for 990 weeks in the US Billboard LP & Tape chart. The US National Recording Registry has selected it as being:
The album was re-issued as a box set in March 2023 by Pink Floyd Records and was played around the world in planetariums, as a reference to the original showcase in 1973.
Celebrating this re-release, the Future Factory is presenting Pink Floyd’s Evolution, which features a 23- minute aural experience (Echoes), The Dark Side of the Moon and a full-length version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, all performed live by accomplished musicians.
