Canadian singer Allison Russell will soon be bringing her unique sound to entertain people in the Melbourne Southbank area.
The award-winning Russell is not only a singer of note, but also an activist, poet, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. As well as winning a Grammy for Best American Roots Performance for her single Eve was Black, she has won the Juno Award for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year, an Americana Award, Canadian Folk Music Awards and four UK Americana Music Awards.
She plays with the Rainbow Coalition Band, a group of musicians who have historically been marginalised or under-represented. The audience will be treated to an evening of soulful and expressive melodies, and Russell will likely perform favourite songs such as Outside Child and The Returner.
On the evening at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Russell will be supported by Mo’Ju, best known for their 2018 album Native Tongue. Playing both guitar and piano, writing songs and singing, they create music within different genres.
