All invited to 64th annual Moomba Festival

The Birdman Rally that draws thousands of visitors to the banks of the Yarra River each year will once again be among major events at this year’s Moomba Festival in Melbourne.

Poster and banner printing for the popular festival, which has been held for the past 64 years, is already well underway along with preparations by intending competitors keen to pit their skills in a myriad of activities planned for the long Labour Day Weekend in March.

The major celebration has earned the reputation of being the country’s largest free festival for the community and its many events continually attract millions of fun-loving people each year.

According to the organisers, the City of Melbourne, there will be something for all ages to enjoy, including a fun-filled Moomba carnival that will feature the Friday Ride pass with its unlimited rides.

The Birdman Rally, which will see competitors diving into the city’s Yarra River as a charity fundraiser, will be held on March 11 from 11:30.

The annual Moomba Parade is a major spectacle that traditionally brings out the crowds who line the streets to witness the movement and colour of an organised procession along St. Kilda Road.

Participants, who will kick off at 10:30am on March 12, will include the Moomba Monarchs, dance troupes, schools, cultural performance groups and many community designed floats.

Moomba celebrations will be held from March 9 to 12.
