Margaret Esakoff, Mayor of Glen Eira, said the project is being funded by the council ($5.7m), Federal Government ($4m) and the State Government ($2m), and it will provide a fabulous facility for the people of Glen Eira.
Esakoff said Murrumbeena Park's existing pavilion was a rapidly aging facility that was in urgent need of redevelopment, and she added:
“The redevelopment has presented an ideal opportunity to build a facility that will meet the growing needs of the tenant sporting clubs and provide opportunities for other community groups and organisations.”
Redevelopment at the site will see a new community hub complete with multi-purpose spaces earmarked for members of the community, as well as sporting groups that are located in or near Murrumbeena Park.
The mayor says the new facility will provide many benefits for the local community, including the provision of a place where they can connect and socialise while enjoying various activities within a central hub. Events and activities such as these have often been advertised via flyer printing campaigns targeting local residents.
Features of the new hub, which has a mid-2022 completion date, range from social spaces and meeting rooms to amenities for sports clubs and facilities to host childcare.
