Opportunity to learn about food-labelling in Caulfield

Caulfield residents can attend a free evening session to learn how food labels work and make more informed choices.

Accredited Practicing Dietitian Melissa D’Elia will be running a workshop so that participants can understand how to compare products and decipher nutrition panels and ingredients. There will also be information on looking at health claims (for example, low fat or high protein) and information about considering the inclusion of the most common additives.

Understanding labels can help people recognise the real nutritional value of food products.

D’Elia is the founder of Sprout Nutrition, and has a keen, professional interest in nutrition counselling and making informed choices when checking supermarket and brand labelling of products.

On the evening, real food products will be present to investigate. All of those attending will be able to take away a reference guide as a useful aide memoire when shopping in future. Print shops are often the point of contact for workshop organisers if volume printing is required.

The Understanding Food Labels workshop will take place on Thursday, 17 September, from 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm. It will be held in the Caulfield Cup Room at Glen Eira Town Hall, on the corner of Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads, Caulfield. This is a free event and is suitable for those aged 15 and above. Booking is necessary.
