Art fans in the Caulfield area can visit an exhibition that quietly explores the relationship and juxtaposition between man-made and natural materials.
Bridget McDermott is the exhibiting artist and her themes for these works include feminism, sustainability and our links to the environment. The viewer is invited to consider what is celebrated and preserved and what falls by the wayside by looking at the acts of preservation themselves as signifiers of ecological and cultural expression. Her work entitled Substrate and Drift, for example, is a pen and water colour piece that also incorporates pressed seaweed and gold leaf.
McDermott has previously shown work at exhibitions such as the Bayside Art Show, the Whitehorse Art Show and the Linden Postcard Show. She is also active at community arts spaces such as fortyfivedownstairs and the Brunswick Street Gallery. At work, she is the Head of Visual Arts at Melbourne’s Mount Scopus Memorial College. Her formal background includes a degree in Education, Art and Craft from Deakin University.
Gallery spaces displaying art on the walls traditionally use text boards as labelling which might be generated at local Print shops.
