Site targets volunteers with online skills

The launch of a new online website has created a vehicle through which millennials are able to put their modern day skills towards helping others.

Called Vollie, the online platform is the brainchild of St. Kilda residents Matthew Boyd and Tanya Dontas.

Dontas said the ultimate aim is to connect volunteers from throughout the Glen Eira Council area, including Caulfield and potentially worldwide, with not-for-profit organisations that need assistance with online projects exclusively including skillsets in graphic design.

A total of 26 not-for-profit organisations have already seen the merit in Vollie and have signed on, according to Dontas. The list includes the Starlight Children’s Foundation, The Butterfly Foundation, Earth Watch, Make-A-Wish Australia and Foodbank.

Since November, volunteers have put in 1,000 hours, estimated to be valued at near $60,000, undertaking 60 online projects.

Boyd said he is excited about what the new website has the potential to achieve, claiming Vollie is providing a new avenue for volunteering – one that is online and can be undertaken from anywhere in Australia or overseas.

He added Vollie is ideal for the new generation’s particular skill sets, which they can now use to help others in need.

The new online platform is also giving rise to innovative projects for not-for-profit groups that can be achieved through finding specific skills-based online project volunteers with the assistance of Vollie, said Boyd.
