Tennis fans in Caulfield and surrounding areas are preparing for the 2022 Australian Open Grand Slam tournament.
First known as the Australasian Championships, the Australian Open has been played in major cities across the nation since 1905, though in 1988, it made its official move to its current home at Melbourne Park.
Attracting some of the biggest names in the sporting world to compete for over $80 million in prize money, the Australian Open is the first of the four major tennis Grand Slam tournaments held throughout the year, followed by the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
Those expected to grace the courts for next year’s tournament include world number one ranked players Novak Djokovic and Australia’s own Ashleigh Barty. Major sporting events such as this can benefit from banner printing to help promote key event sponsors and to provide information for fans attending tournament games.
Competition for next year’s open is expected to be fierce, with crowd favourite Naomi Osaka expected to furiously defend her title from this year’s tournament, her second Australian Open win. Meanwhile, Serbian sensation Djokovic will be looking to expand upon his record-breaking, nine-time title success and aim for a fourth consecutive Open win.
Tickets for the 2022 Australian Open are currently on sale, with tournament play commencing on January 17th at Melbourne Park in the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct.
