Glen Eira City Council is giving children ages three to five years the opportunity to learn about frogs and their habitat through an event called Frog Detectives.
Christina Renownden from Leap into Nature, which aims to boost the ecological knowledge of youngsters, will introduce children to frogs and their habitat. Leap into Nature is dedicated to helping children learn about the natural world and to nurturing their sense of wonder. The junior frog-hunters will learn what frogs are, why they are important, how they are different to people, what kinds of frogs might be living close by and how to listen for frogs and search for them safely.
When they have learnt all these interesting facts, the frog detectives will go on their own frog hunt and will make a home fit for a frog.
Because of their sensitivity to changes in the environment, the presence or absence of frogs is often used as a marker of the health of an ecosystem and they are incorporated into the Logo Design of several environmental organisations.
The frog hunt is a free event held in the grounds of Rippon Lea in Elsternwick, close to Caulfield, on Tuesday 11th December at 10am. Bookings for young participants are essential and can be made online through the council website. A responsible adult must accompany the children.Get a Free Quote for Logo Design
