Residents of Caulfield and surrounding suburbs have an opportunity to declutter and clear out their garages and sheds during quarantine in preparation for the Garage Sale Trail in November.
Glen Eira Council is one of the councils that has joined this initiative to help reduce landfill in its shire and to encourage residents to recycle unwanted items while earning a little cash on the side. Over 3,500 tonnes is expected to be diverted from landfill as a result of the Garage Sale Trail.
This free weekend-long event is a great way for residents to meet neighbours. However, it is not only limited to households. Council encourages community groups, schools and local businesses to get on board and set up a sale. Shoppers have an opportunity to grab a bargain and get some Christmas shopping done during the sale. In 2019, residents within the Glen Eira shire made approximately $319 on average in the Garage Sale Trail.
To ensure the safety of residents during the pandemic, residents will receive tips and advice from the council on how to make their sale Covid-safe and contactless. Councils make use of graphic design and flyer printing to keep residents up to date with relevant information regarding events and planned projects.
The Garage Sale Trail will take place on 21st and 22nd November from 9am-5pm. Details of registration can be found on the Glen Eira City Council website.
