Those living in Broadmeadows and the surrounding areas might wish to hear the curator of the local museum speak on the history of dance in the locale.

To accompany the exhibition Dancing Through the Decades, running until 13 December, a curator will be considering the social, cultural and community aspects of dance, through history up until the present day.

Early community dances, held in schools and halls, saw people taking part in popular Forms of dance at the time, such as the foxtrot, waltz and swing. Later, in the 20th century, dance styles became less formal, reflecting youth culture and societal trends, with dances such as disco and rock ‘n’ roll helping to foster connection and often becoming an act of celebration.

Photographs, archival objects and personal stories help bring the subject to life, while the curator invites audiences to reflect on their own experiences of dance and its role in community celebrations, from social gatherings to weddings.

Labelling for objects and pictures in museum settings often use local printing services to produce text boards for display.

The Curator’s Talk – Dancing Through the Decades event will be taking place on Sunday, 4 October, from 11 am until 1 pm. The venue is Broadmeadows Museum, which can be found at 221 Pearcedale Parade in Broadmeadows, Victoria. A ticket cost $15 for general admission.Get a Free Quote for Forms
