Esteemed author to be interviewed before Broadmeadows audience

Literary fans in the Broadmeadows locality can soon join a free session to hear a revered author talk about his work.

Bec Kavanagh will be interviewing Tony Birch as he talks about identity, the power of words and the importance of telling a story.

Birch is an Aboriginal Australian writer, an activist and an academic. He has written four novels and short story collections, as well as two poetry Books. He has won and been shortlisted for many literary awards, including being the winner of the 2024 The Age Book of the Year (Fiction) for his novel Women and Children.

A reviewer from the Australian Book Review wrote:
“Birch is a natural storyteller who makes every element work for him: plot and pace, character and dialogue, scene and setting. Here is a writer who is not afraid of his words – one who would rather have stories where before there was only silence.”

Kavanagh is a writer and academic based in Melbourne. She is no stranger to interviewing, having been a host at various writers’ festivals, as well as having literary criticism published.

Events taking place in venues such as libraries might make use of poster printing in order to advertise within the building.

Author Tony Birch will be in conversation with Bec Kavanagh on Thursday, 14 May, from 6.30 pm until 8 pm, at Broadmeadows Library, 1093 Pascoe Vale Road, Broadmeadows. Light refreshments will be provided. Places are free, although pre-booking is essential.
