Small businesses to benefit from free masterclasses

Broadmeadows start-up businesses and entrepreneurs have an opportunity to benefit from a free new initiative supported by Hume City.

The programme, known as Start and Grow, will be presented by StartNorth and will enable participants to receive valuable training required to assist in starting or growing their individual businesses. To be presented in two components, the first will focus on growing a business and will involve eight masterclasses.

The free classes for businesses looking for a fresh restart, which will run until July this year, will cover topics ranging from the re-establishment of a business to handling finances, along with brand and marketing awareness, which can apply to promotional strategies including Business Cards. Developing or revisiting a business plan will also be covered.

The second component aims at supporting the creation of a new business and will be held from August through to September.

Hume Mayor Carly Moore applauded the initiative in a statement, and she added:

“I encourage local businesses to take up this opportunity to attend these free masterclasses to learn new skills needed to reach their next business goal and connect with like-minded people.”

Programme participants will also have a chance to spend five months at the council-operated and owned StartNorth's co-working space in Broadmeadows for free. In addition, businesses that are eligible will be able to make a pitch for grant funding to help their business grow.
