What's Happening in Broadmeadows, VIC…

Popular leisure centre to be upgraded

The Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre will be closed for approximately six months while upgrades are carried out to improve the facility.

Hume City Council said that the original areas of the centre need to be remodelled so that the community can continue to use the facility well into the future. The centre was opened nearly 40 years ago and is a popular recreational area for locals.

Mayor Carly Moore says the refurbishment is expected to cost $2.49 million with the works expected to continue through until September this year.

The upgrades will include improvements to changing rooms next to the 25m pool, which will also have its roof remodelled and the surrounding area will be resurfaced. There will be a new steam room and new showers built and the current mezzanine floor will be removed. The centre will also be made more energy efficient with new double glazing on any north facing windows and pool machinery updated.

There will be several interruptions to activities, however, the aim is to minimise disruption where possible with most of the centre remaining open. Some swimming lessons have been temporarily suspended, and parents have received notification of the changes. Printing services can help businesses undergoing change to inform their customers about disruptions and updates.

Cr. Moore asking the community to exercise patience throughout the remodelling process.
