Lane Cove Council, which serves the Lower North Shore of Sydney, had a busy schedule for its February meeting, and one essential agenda item discussed was the establishment of a St Leonards South Coordination Unit.
The council is gauging support for a unit to coordinate and manage the many projects occurring in St Leonards. The council is concerned that construction is already causing concerns amongst residents. Reports of non-compliance with rules around construction noise, poor traffic flow and dust problems have already come to light. A master plan unit would alleviate these issues and deliver projects smoothly.
The demolition of an existing building as part of St Leonards’ over-rail plaza is already inconveniencing residents, with further development planned. There are 23 amalgamated sites and at least 1,974 dwellings about to be constructed in the St Leonards South precinct. A development unit is crucial to allow smooth development of the area.
A report is being prepared by the council in time for the March 21st meeting that will detail the establishment of a St Leonards South Coordination Unit. The information should include a risk management analysis, identify potential problem areas and recommend solutions.

The council recommends that the unit include representation from the community and developers. Also affected are nearby North Sydney and Willoughby, so they should also be included.
