The redevelopment of the car park at Rosenthal Avenue, Lane Cove is a step closer following the receipt of development approval for Stage 1, and confirmation of major retail tenants.
The precinct services an area that covers St Leonards and throughout the local government district of Lane Cove Council.
The redevelopment project makes way for new retail space totalling 5400 square metres, and welcomes anchor tenants Aldi and Coles.
Lane Cove Mayor Deborah Hutchens said the introduction of the pair of stores in the new look car park site at Lane Cove Village’s northern end represented a new era for local shoppers who will now be able to enjoy the benefits of two major supermarkets on their doorstep.
She said the Rosenthal redevelopment had been long awaited, but with work scheduled to begin next year, it is now becoming a reality.
Once completed, the site will host 500 underground parking spaces, which the Mayor said will be a major boost to the current 175 available spots.
The crowning glory, according to Mayor Hutchens, is set to be the open space public domain located in the heart of the village, which will include barbeques, play and park areas, a stage and a village green.
Pedestrian links and laneways will lead to the retail areas to the east and south.
Council’s 2014 Design Ideas Competition provided important feedback from the community for the final concept, which has been the subject of newsletter printing over the past few years.
