City distillery offers tour and tasting

Finders Distillery opened for business five days before the nation went into lockdown in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, 12 months later, customers can sample its Australian spirits in its St. Leonards location.

The distillery was founded by Kyle Ford and Georgia Cann. The pair visited distilleries throughout the world and developed an interest in the craft during a two-year working holiday. Upon returning home, Ford and Cann developed their first product, an Australian gin, using expert assistance to supplement their own research.

In an unanticipated twist, the business’ first product shipment was hand sanitiser, not gin, as it temporarily pivoted to respond to the pandemic. Having weathered 2020, it now supplies 30 local retailers and has added a vodka to its product range.

Ford and Cann chose to locate the distillery on the lower north shore of Sydney, as it is close to their home. Products are distilled in single batches in a 300-litre copper still. Bottling, labelling and Packaging is managed by hand. The distillery offers a tour and tasting operation, where customers can learn about the distilling process and sample the end product. According to the Daily Telegraph, Cann said she sees community engagement as important for the business, and she added:

“People are really blown away that they can get something that’s made around the corner. It’s great to have that local connection.”

Flyer printing can often support the promotion of new businesses in a local area.

The Finders Distillery tour and tasting events are held on Saturdays. Bookings can be made online.
