What's Happening in Cheyenne, WY…

Frigid fundraiser to take the plunge in Cheyenne

Every winter, a group of intrepid bathers takes to the frigid waters of a local lake to help the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Warrior Foundation. The Cheyenne Schwartz Memorial Plunge is open to everyone, and this year, Sloan’s Lake will be the venue for this frigid fundraiser.

In late January, members of the public will be celebrating the life of Technical Sergeant Matthew Schwartz, who was an EOD team leader. They are asked to keep him, along with other EOD members and their families, in mind when they “take the plunge,” and the registration fee is $30.

The bathers who participate in the event are welcome to wear a fun costume, and the fun will take place whether it is sunny or snowing. If the ice is not thick enough for the function to be held safely, it will be relocated to the Cheyenne Municipal Pool. Safety personnel will be on hand, and a warming station and changing facilities will be available.

For community-building celebrations like this, a colorful banner that welcomes all of the participants brings a fun final touch to the occasion, and a banner printing company can prepare one using materials that can withstand being out in the snow and cold.

The Schwartz Memorial Plunge will be celebrating its eighth year on January 25. The registration area will be situated in the Kiwanis Community House.
