Cheyenne to expand its urban tree canopy
Urban trees provide many benefits to a city, and a Cheyenne initiative will help to expand its living canopy.
Rooted Cheyenne has designated a day in May as its “Spring Planting Day”, and it is hoping everyone in the community will want to get involved. They can apply to receive a tree to plant, and if they want to go the extra mile, they will even have an opportunity to apply to volunteer.
Those who would like to submit an application for a tree must have a residential property that is within Cheyenne city limits. Their yard must be large enough to accommodate a growing tree, and the species they receive will be chosen by the organizers. An arborist will review the site to make sure it is suitable, If and when they are approved, it will be time to install these new additions to the city’s landscape.
To help ensure the program is a success, Rooted in Cheyenne is seeking helping hands. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. A company can prepare promotional products to give to volunteers with a project to show their assistance is appreciated.
This year’s Spring Planting Day will see volunteers fanning out across the city on Saturday, May 20. The trees will be installed from 10:30 am until 7:00 pm.
