Cheyenne course planned for public information officers

In an emergency situation, keeping the public informed can be a vital step in ensuring their safety, and a two-day-long Cheyenne workshop will be taking this on board.

The goal of the Basic Public Information Officer Course will be to teach those who work in the community what steps they can take to keep citizens informed. It was noted by the organizers that this can aid in reducing damage to both people and property.

The course is intended for those at the municipal, state, federal, territorial and tribal level who are tasked with disseminating information, and is also open to those who work in the private sector. It will explore a variety of topics related to the role of a public information officer, and is being offered by Wyoming Homeland Security.

There is no charge to participate in this training, but spaces are limited and advanced registration is required. Those who wish to take part will also need to have completed the prerequisite courses ahead of time, and information about these can be found by contacting the event’s host at renee.austin1@wyo.gov. Print shops can supply bound manuals and other materials for this sort of training opportunity.

This introduction to the role of the public information officer will be held on October 2 and 3. it will be on offer at 3962 Field Station Road in Cheyenne.
