What's Happening in Cheyenne, WY…

Cheyenne cookout to offer tastes from frontier times

For many years, the Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration has paid homage to the area’s early days. One of its best-loved traditions is set to make its return, and tickets are now available.

Whether they are young or old, the festival’s Chuckwagon Experience can offer members of the public a taste of what life was like out on the frontier. They will be able to view authentic chuckwagons that have been lovingly restored, and the food will be prepared by cowboys and cowgirls using the same techniques and tools that would have been used long ago.

The food will be cooked over the fire using cast iron and other authentic tools, and the ticket holders may even add some new cookery skills to their repertoire. They can also meet the cooks and discuss the recipes they use, and once the meal is ready, they will be invited to sit down and enjoy a hearty helping while old fashioned style music helps to build a frontier style atmosphere.

The guests at this sort of hands on event often want to the same style of cookery at home. Cards that include versions of the recipes used that have been adapted for the modern kitchen can be given to each diner, and stationery printers can be counted on to supply them.

The Chuckwagon experience will be taking a step back in time on July 22. The venue for the meal will be released closer to the date, and more information is available on the Frontier Days website.
