Wisconsin roller derby team launches fundraiser

Madison Roller Derby has begun a virtual fundraising run, with a window that spans three months and allows participants to make their run anywhere they want.

The event is called the Dairyland Derby Dash and has been launched from Madison with the goal of also reaching out to participants in nearby areas like Brookfield and Milwaukee. Participants can run, walk, or, in the spirit of the cause, roller skate a distance of either 5 or 10 kilometres. Those who register online will receive a commemorative bib before the race and a medal upon completion of the event, with other branded promotional products available to purchase.

Madison Roller Derby is looking to raise money after having to cancel a portion of its season. The team is also looking to raise money to obtain a larger skating space, which would allow it to hold more games, junior derby programs, and community events. The group was founded in 2004 and fields a local league as well as an all-star team called the Dairyland Dolls, which competes against roller derby squads from around the country. In 2018, they launched their own internationally recognized tournament called Udder Chaos. In past seasons they have participated in community outreach with charities like Nuestro Mundo Incorporated and The Road Home Dane County.

The Derbyland Dairy Dash will be open to entries until October 31.
