What's Happening in Brookfield, WI…

Flags gathered to raise funds

A local bank branch will be accepting worn out American flags for proper disposal here in Brookfield.

A donation of $1 will be made to Stars & Stripes Honor Flight, up to $1,000, for each flag dropped off.

North Shore bank will collect tattered U.S flags at all of its locations, and they will be respectfully disposed of at a Veterans Day retirement ceremony in November, with the assistance of local Boy Scout troops and the American Legion. The $1 per flag donated by North Shore as well as donations from public contributions will be presented at the Brookfield flag retirement ceremony.

Sue Doyle from the North Shore bank said that the idea is to honor the patriotic status of the flag by disposing of them in a sensitive way.

Stars & Stripes Honor Flights take local veterans of WWII, the Korean Conflict, and terminally ill veterans by plane to Washington D.C. for the day, so they can see the memorials dedicated to them. Honor flights and all expenses for the day are provided free of charge to the veterans.

Banks, in addition to using printing services to provide customers and potential customers with information on bank products, are increasingly using brochures printers to inform the public of about community projects or charities with which they are associated.

Flags can be dropped off from October 6 through October 25.
