Brookfield company plans expansion

Milwaukee Tool, a Brookfield-based hardware company, has announced that it will be opening a new manufacturing plant as part of a larger expansion.

The company officially purchased the 22-acre site recently from West Bend. It paid just $1 for the land, based on a pledge to develop a hand tool factory that will generate jobs in the region.

Initial construction plans suggest a 94,700 square foot plant, with an expansion to almost twice that size possible. West Bend will be providing additional incentives and assistance to the new plant, including seeking a new road to the facility through the Wisconsin Transportation Economic Assistance Grant.

The new plant is a component of Milwaukee Tool’s ongoing development in southeastern Wisconsin, which includes a new research campus in Menomonee Falls, an expansion of its Imperial Blades brand in Sun Prairie, and $26m in expansion for its Brookfield headquarters. These expansions are set to create 870 new positions. The West Bend factory, likely bearing Milwaukee Tool’s signature lightning bolt logo design, will create up to 100 jobs, meaning that business cards may soon be flying after construction is complete. The tools created will largely be marketed to professional electricians and utility linesman.

Milwaukee Tool has said that construction of the West Bend plant, including new sewer and water lines, could begin as soon as August.
