The position of county administrator was created and it will take on the responsibilities that were previously undertaken by the department head. The county officials in Baraboo have not had a department head since March.
The board voted 21-10 in favor of the change last month. The no-longer valid position of department head was unoccupied when Alene Bolin left the post to take up a state-level role. The task of finding someone to take up the county administrator post has been given to the Executive and Legislative Committee. People taking up new executive roles tend to enlist business card printing services.
The new county administrator will be in charge of putting together the county’s budget, appointing and dismissing department heads, and delegating assignments from the committee. Supervisor Carl Gruber spoke about the coming changes to say:
“I think this is a good opportunity for the future, and an opportunity to take some of the politics out for the department head, and take some of the worry out of the department heads every two years.”
Supervisor Marty Krueger was among those who voted against the structural change, believing that the board was making the decision too quickly and that there were other vacant positions that should have been prioritized.
