County budget includes third straight tax rate decrease Baraboo

Baraboo property owners will be happy to know that their tax bill may be slightly lower, as the Sauk County Board’s budget will once again include a lower tax rate.

The county’s $163.9 million budget was recently passed without any amendments and little discussion. Factoring into the tax rate decrease were debts the county paid off and a couple of Tax Increment Finance Districts that were terminated.

Local governments use printing services to inform residents of the financial initiatives being taken for their benefit.

Homeowners will receive a 2.3% tax reduction from $3.85 to $3.76 per $1000 of property value, making a homeowner with a $100,000 value on their real estate have a tax bill of $376. However, some homeowners may see an increase despite the tax rate going down as some properties may have increased in value enough to negate the rate reduction.

The only supervisor to speak prior to the unanimous vote, Sup. Marty Krueger offered his appreciation to the board for the ease in bringing the matter to a vote. He noted that no amendments were proposed which he pointed to as a benefit of having a county administrator to oversee matters such as drafting a budget.

Tax rates in Sauk Count have gone down over the last three budgets with the rate dropping to $4.33 from 2020 to 2021, then to $3.85 in the 2021 to 2022 budget and now down to $3.76 in this latest budget.
