Baraboo welcomes locals input into economic plan

Residents of Baraboo were recently given an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions on a plan to encourage the growth of the city’s economy.

Close to a dozen citizens came out to the listening session, which took place at the Baraboo Civic Center. They were given an opportunity to hear more about the Economic Development Commission’s GROW BARABOO plan, and then give their feedback. The overall feeling among those who took part was that while it was a good first step, more was needed.

The draft document is intended to provide a framework that will help to encourage the growth of business in the city. These include objectives for marketing it, and making it a place that is attractive to those looking for a place to visit, live, work, and play. It currently includes an objective of hiring an employee on a part-time basis to help accomplish those tasks.

Once the final document is completed, a catalog printing firm will be able to produce bound Copies for distribution to any stakeholder who may be interested in learning more about it.

Some of the ideas that the audience felt would be helpful in growing the city’s economy included adding more parking, strengthening its connection to nearby Devil’s Lake, and using more signage along Highway 12 to encourage motorists to visit the community’s downtown core.
