What's Happening in Baraboo, WI…

Baraboo tackles fly fishing

Baraboo fishermen, or those who simply want to learn a new skill, are invited to skip buying premade lures and try their hand at fly tying.

The Aldo Leopold Chapter of Trout Unlimited is getting ready for the upcoming fly fishing season by hosting a fly tying class for beginners. It is being offered free of charge, and will give those who take it an opportunity to learn patterns that can be used to attract some of the fish species commonly caught in Wisconsin waters, such as trout.

All supplies, other than the flying tying vice, standard tying tools, and black thread, will be supplied by the Ado Leopold chapter. Anyone who cannot find the supplies they need to bring with them may be able to borrow them from the chapter. A booklet printing company can produce instructional materials for the course so that those who participate will have instructions that allow them to practice at home. These can include text, graphics, and also photos in full color, black and white, or a combination of the two.

The Baraboo Public Library will be providing space for the classes, which will be held on Wednesdays starting on January 27 and running for the following five weeks. Since space is limited, people are encouraged to sign up early by contacting Mike Stapleton at (608) 742-3665.
