The donation of $2.5 million was made by Juanita Schadde who is a local to Baraboo. According to a revelation made to the Library Board of Trustees, the donation will be used to fund the renovation and expansion of the library on the condition that the library gets a new name. The Board of Trustees approved of the condition.
This is one of the largest donations or Corporate Gifts that the library has ever received. According to John Ellington, the Library Board President, Schadde was adamant about the selection of a new name that will acknowledge the Schadde family which has been a part of Baraboo for generations. When asked about her decision to make the donation and the name change, Juanita Schadde said:
“I thought it would be nice to recognize the family.”
The exact date has not been set, however, the Baraboo Public Library’s name will eventually be changed to the Carnegie-Schadde Memorial Public Library. The name Carnegie was chosen as an homage to Andrew Carnegie who was a wealthy industrialist in the 20th Century. He funded the construction and design of thousands of libraries across the nation including the Baraboo Public Library.
The board has yet to decide on when the name will officially be changed. The library’s 117th anniversary will be in September 2020, and Ellington believes that it will be the perfect occasion to incorporate the new name.
