As the fields around Baraboo turn orange with fall pumpkins, a community gathering will feature a fun way to utilize these popular members of the gourd family.
Devil's Lake State Park will be celebrating the area’s creative talents by hosting a pumpkin carving contest, and it will be set up between the Visitor's Center and the Chateau at the North Shore. There will be four age categories, and prizes will be presented to the winners.
Registrants can sign up in their age group, and the Halloween Hikers will choose their favorite from the various entries. The carving supplies for the afternoon, as well as the pumpkins and other design elements, will all be provided, and the work will take place during a two-hour time window.
Along with the pumpkin carving, the evening will offer a one mile long hike by torchlight, and there will be other activities as well. Promotional Products, including trivia game cards, will be handed out, and they can be picked up at the Rock Elm Shelter. Everyone can enjoy some s’mores while they gather around the campfire, and a costume parade is in the works as well.
This afternoon and evening of spooky fun will welcome Baraboo families on Saturday, October 21. The pumpkin carve is set to kick off at 3:00 pm, while the hike and campfire have a scheduled start time of 6:00 pm.
