Baraboo company given $4.65m government contract

The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has announced it has awarded Teel Plastics a $4.65m firm-fixed-price contract on behalf of the Department of Health and Human Services to allow more extruded swab sticks to be produced in the US.

Baraboo-based Teel Plastics has been producing plastics for more than 70 years. The new contract will enable the company to expand its efforts at increasing production capacity by an extra 200 million extruded swab sticks per month by July of 2022, creating a total of 330 million per month. The company expects to add more than 25 additional employees to handle this production rate increase, so local jobseekers may want to update their resumés and Business Cards.

The increase in swab stick capacity for Teel Plastics will support the Puritan company’s efforts to equip swabs for a variety of COVID-19 testing kits. Jerry Pritchett, Teel CEO, said:

“We’re proud of the role our employees have played in helping to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. This additional funding will both increase our capacity and allow for more secure production in a second facility.”

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funded the effort led by the Defense Assisted Acquisition of the DOD to make the expansion of medical resources possible via the domestic industrial base. This was done in conjunction with the Air Force’s Acquisition COVID-19 Task Force.
