This month, two community members will be honored with individual Lifetime Service Awards by the Events & Recognitions Committee of the city of Tacoma as part of its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration.
Announcements of such honors are often disseminated throughout a city with flyer printing.
The Lifetime Service Award honors a group or individual that has dedicated themselves to serving a given population or community. The recipients this year represent the heart of the award through their dedication to the community.
Dr. Pricilla Lisicich is one of the awardees and has been the executive director of Safe Streets Campaign since 1993. She designed the Safe Streets, having been able to acquire grants of over $450K to build safer communities. She is dedicated to youth development and community organization.
Tanika Aden, a grassroots organizer since 2004, is the other individual being recognized. Her work is with the Clover Park and Tacoma School Districts, helping students with disabilities and at-risk youth to develop leadership and advocacy skills, helping them become more involved in the community and to grow to be leaders.
The celebration this year will highlight the current and future impacts of Dr. King and will feature local speakers and performers. The annual celebration will take place on Monday, January 16 at 11:00 am at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center on Commerce Street.
