Tacoma seeks members of transportation commission

Applicants are being sought by the Tacoma City Council to fill five positions on the Transportation Commission.

Three of the vacancies are for council districts and the other two are for at-large members. Those looking to fill these positions need to be residents of Tacoma.

The Transportation Commission consists of eleven members, nine of which are voting members appointed by the City Council while the other two are non-voting members appointed by the City Manager. The nine voting members include at least one representative from each of the five Council Districts of the city. These members bring diverse perspectives and expertise to support the long-term vision of the city for mobility and for transportation.

Appointees should reflect areas of interest and expertise that include construction and private business, professional engineering, bicycle and pedestrian/mass transit, planning and urban growth, environmental and sustainability, the ADA community, and the general community.

Training in the Public Records and Open Public Meetings Acts (provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General) is expected to be completed by applicants within 90 days of their appointment. More details about such positions and their responsibilities can be provided with flyer printing.

Meetings of the Transportation Commission are at 5:30 pm on the third Wednesday of each month, and are held at the Tacoma Municipal Building or virtually on Zoom.

Applications must be submitted to the Office of the City Clerk by noon on Monday, June 22.
