Five positions on the Tacoma Community Police Advisory Committee (CPAC) are currently open and applicants are needed to fill these positions. There are four at-large positions and one youth position.
CPAC advises the City Council on policy issues regarding the Tacoma Police Department (TPD). It is responsible for promoting awareness of the process for public complaints and reviewing policy complaints by members of the public; promoting the resources and services of TPD; advising the City Manager, the Chief of Police, and the City Council on police procedures, policy, training, rules, and programs; and reviewing such items at the request of the City Council.
These positions are open to those who are residents of Tacoma, are not members of the TPD or have an immediate family member serving in the TPD, and do not hold any other elective public office.
Flyer printing can be used to provide more details about the responsibilities of these positions and the application process.
Those who are appointed to fill these positions will need to complete training sessions on the Open Public Meetings Act and the Open Public Records Act within 90 days of being appointed to their position. These training sessions are provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
Applications for these positions need to be submitted online to the office of the City Clerk by Sunday September 15.
